Chile and Uruguay seem to be on a path to a bilateral free trade deal. With the former in the Pacific Alliance and the latter in the customs union Mercosur, are the two blocs converging, or is Mercosur fracturing?
Nicolas Albertoni is originally from Uruguay. He holds a Master's degree in Latin American studies with a focus on political economy, from Georgetown University´s School of Foreign Service with an honor certificate in international business diplomacy and a Bachelor's degree in international business and economic integration from the Universidad Católica del Uruguay. He is an Associate Professor of Economic Integration, at Universidad Católica del Uruguay, in Montevideo. His research focuses on trade and economic integration of Latin America as well as economic development theories. He has authored two books: “Instrucciones para inventar la rueda. Qué tienen los países que progresan y cómo aplicarlo a Uruguay?” and “Entre el Barrio y el Mundo ¿Mercosur o el Modelo Chileno?”.
